Frequently Asked Questions for Potential Donors

Why can’t I find information for a particular organization I’m looking for?
This could be due to one of three reasons:
1. They may not yet be registered with Donate Seattle. If that’s the case then please give them a call and suggest they register at www.donateseattle.org
2. You may not have the correct spelling for the organization name.
3. You may be looking for an organization which is outside Western Washington.

Why can’t I find the item(s) I would like to donate on the resource list?
For practical reasons the categories serve just as a guide to the types of items organizations are looking for. You should choose a category that most closely describes the item(s) you would like to donate. You will then find more specific information for each individual organization on the results page.

How do I obtain a receipt for my tax deductible donation?
You can request a receipt from the organization you donate to.

What sort of items are nonprofit organizations in need of?
Needs vary from food, new or lightly used clothing, collectables, toys, medical equipment and kitchen appliances to dog beds, lumber, colored paper clips and ‘squirty’ hand soap! If you are not sure whether your item fits the bill it’s advisable to call first and confirm that it’s suitable.

Do you have facilities to store the items I’d like to donate?
No. Our aim is simply to help you identify organizations that need the items you’d like to donate.

Do you arrange collection and delivery of items?
No. Collection and delivery options should be discussed directly with the nonprofit organization.

Can I advertise the items I want to give away on www.donateseattle.org?
Not at this time.

Can an individual post a list of items they need?
Unfortunately, individuals cannot post personal requests for items on this site. There are, however, many organizations which are dedicated to providing help and support for individuals and families in need. Who benefits financially from www.donateseattle.org?
Neither corporate funds nor grants were used in order to set up this privately funded site. Application for Nonprofit Status is planned early in 2007 when the value and results of Donate Seattle have been clearly demonstrated. Future funding options and site development will be considered at that time.

If you are interested in becoming actively involved with Donate Seattle or would like to provide financial support we would be pleased to hear from you. You can email info@donateseattle.org or call: (206) 721-1015
